Ranthambore National Park is one of the biggest and most renowned national park in Northern India. The park is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan, which is about 130 km from Jaipur. Being considered as one of the famous and former hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Jaipur, today the Ranthambore National Park terrain is major wildlife spot.

The national park is spread over an area of 392 sq km. The park is majorly famous for its tigers and is supposedly one of the best locations in India to see the majestic predators in its natural habitat (we unfortunately didn't see any!)

Becuase we only booked a week in advance all the jeeps were full & we were left with no other option but to take the canter; a small open air bus with space for twenty. The first safari in the morning wasn't exceptional, it was through densely forested area and our group was so loud that any hopes to see a tiger were completely lost. The wind was so cold & we didn't come as prepared as we should have, so we spent it huddled together with as little bare skin exposed as possible (who would have thought you could be so cold in India!). However the evening was far superior and we saw a multitude of different wildlife on vast open plains. Spotted chital deer grazed peacefully in the long grasses, giant sambar deer rested by the lakeside at a safe distance from the neighbouring crocodiles, Hanuman langur monkeys playfully bounced among the trees, as wild boar and mongoose wandered beneath.
